Joan,

I was not able to find any source making the claim that "the planets in
our solar system orbit other stars as well".  You must have misunderstood.
The eight planets in our solar system orbit our star, Sol, commonly
called the Sun.  These eight will never orbit any other star.

Different planets have been found orbiting other stars.  The number of
such "extrasolar" planets changes almost daily, but there now are over
455.
