That's the first find I had when I Googled! I had not heard of the graphic before, but had a good idea what it would be about.

Biomass... is just that. The mass involved in that group of consumers.

Carnivores don't waste time and energy on harvesting or consuming or digesting the plant sources. They just eat the next level down. Hence less biomass.
