I conducted an experiement with my Russian tortoises to see if they could recognize colors using different colors of food dishes. I concluded that they could, as they selected the color of their familar food dish 75% of the time. I would like to know how or why this experiment was useful, but I can't think of any reason and neither can my parents. Because the tortoises were more or less trained to recognize the color of their food dish, recognizing colors would not be helpful in marking danger areas in nature with certain colors.
