Hi Richard,

Neurosurgery is obviously highly complex. An intern, as in, someone without a medical degree or specific postgraduate training would most certainly not be performing the surgery. At some hospitals, a neurosurgical resident may participate in the surgical management of your friend. Howevere, this is a question that should be posed to the surgeon.
