All life forms have cyclic patterns. This is my observation and learning 
only... so don't look for references at the bottom! 

The resources of this planet have a limit, therefore if human population 
grows inchecked then that limit will be reached.

The adaptive ability of humans may mean that as a species we persist much 
longer than any other and even populate other planets, but by historical 
and natural patterns all living things have a cyclic nature. 

Global warming may even allow a longer span for our cycle. We only have 
models to base our predictions on. 

You might like to research the length of time that pre-humans and not 
human primates were in existence before they became extinct. My 
understanding is that our existence on Earth is small compared.
