Why do humans have to fall in love? I'm not a stranger to the pangs of love, nor am i opposed to romantic love, i just can't understand why people fall in love. Is it an evolutionary trait? Does it only happen to humans and why? From an evolutionary standpoint isn't romantic love destructive for a species? Wouldn't polygamy and casual sex (without the emotional attachments) serve the procreation of a species better? Why have our species evolved in such a way that romantic rejection can be experienced in such a devastating manner? Is there a higher purpose to this? Does all this have to do with the secretion of necessary hormones, or something?
