Hello Valetina,

The cause of pityriasis rosea is unknown.

It is not a bacteria, fungus, or an allegic reaction. It tends to occur in clusters and individuals only seem to get pityriasis rosea once, so it could be a virus. Some studies have identified viral particles, but none have absolutely proven it as the cause.

Pityriasis rosea does not appear to be contagious.
