Hi there! I am in need of help for a grade 12 chemistry question. As a small
part of my assignment, I am to determine how 4-HNE (4-hydroxy-trans-2-nonenal)
is formed from linoleic acid. I know tht 4-HNE is an aldehyde and and linoleic
acid is a carboxylic acid and I also know that 4-HNE has a smaller hydrocarbon
chain than linoleic acid so there has to be some sort of breaking down that
occurs. However, I am unsure as to how this reaction process starts. Your help
is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
