Hi Niloufer!!!!!!
You have asked a really good question. Part of the answer is already there
in the question that you have asked. The key word here is tide. Suppose if
moon is not there, then it would seriously effect the formation of tides.
It would seriously effect the life of numerous marine organisms. Tides
help in the mixing of water, nutrients. Whenever water receeds(low tide)
and again comes back(high tide) it helps in mixing of nutrients. Tidal
cycles are very important. Many organisms plan their daily work according
to the occurence of tides. Likewise, presence of moon is also important.
Many organisms especially nocturnal animals depend on moonlight to catch
their prey. Some organisms undergo reproductive cycles in moonlight. As a
marine biologist and specializing in coral reef studies the best example I
can give for this is; corals spawn(i.e realese eggs and sperms to give
birth to young ones ) during full moon day only. So... now you know why
presence of moon is so important for earth?
Do ask if you still have any doubts.
