Hi Richard: I assume you refer to heat operated fridges. They use gas or electric heat to increase the pressure of ammonia. The ammonia is passed through a small orifice and vented into low pressure large evaporation coils inside the fridge. The phy- sical change turns liquid ammonia to very cold gas. After the gas is circulated absorbing additional heat from inside the fridge it is circulated outside in condenser coils. There the gas is liquified and cooled by air convection. These are the pipes on the back of the fridge. The same process is repeated till the desired temperature inside the fridge is reached. Usually 35 to 45 deg F.

There is a lot of background material I can send you to fully explain the refrigerant choice, etc. No room in this response. Get back to me through the MAD.NET or email at d_micro@ix.netcom.com :) MAD.SCIENTIST.Micro
