I suppose the answer is 15-45k $ per annum or $20-100k $ pa
but I've got a lot of work to do before being able to
give accurate values on the upper limits. If you work
for a company in pest or disease control or if you
sell lots of books with titles like "Abraham's little
goat: the final echelon in the bioGod paradox ?" then
you will probably earn enough for a Mercedes.
Incidentally a guy who pioneered the polymerase chain
reaction (PCR)drives several cars (including a
Ferrari) and does very little else (apparently). Mind
you I can't even drive.

Added by J Ziesmann:
Some typical values for scientists in zoology in the USA:

doctoral (PhD) salary: 17000 $ pa.
postdoctoral salary: 27000 $ to 33000 $
principal investigators: 35000 $ and more
open ended
but keep in mind: most zoologists never make it to
more than postdoctoral level.

(in Germany you can take this figures as German Mark (1$ is 1.9 German Mark),
you earn even less in France or Italy, about equal to USA in Sweden. Typical
postdoctoral salary in the Czech Republic or Poland: around $3000 per year, that
is one tenth of the USA salary.)

If you love zoology become a zoologist, if you want to make money avoid it.
