Dear User, I am not too familiar with western system of marking gold alloys. but 18K gold is obviously not pure gold. Most likely, it is an alloy of gold and silver or gold/silver/copper (less likely). Gold/silver alloys can have a variety of colours, ranging from yellow to white to even green (!). Silver is known to react with sulphurous compounds found in human sweat, and it is often observed that silver jewelry turns black on people who eat a lot of garlic or/and onions or who have high levels of sulphydryls in their sweat. If this is the case, it may explain the change in colour of the ring. However, it brings to my mind a question of how much gold is in the alloy which has been sold to you. You might want to obtain an independent estimate of quality from a different jeweler - they often do this for a small fee as far as I know. Hope it helps. A.G.E.
