I found the following question and answer in the archives: Astronomy: What would happen if all the mass of the earth stopped rotating Q: Jonathan Baty, No grade entered. A: James Steele Foerch The answer stated that basically that everything on the surface would keep going at around 650 MPH. But what would happen to an airplane, traveling at the usual cruising altitude of 35,000 feet at around 500 MPH? Would it matter if it was travelling east or west? Or even, what about birds?
Re: If the earth stopped moving suddenly, what would happen to flying objects?
