The toxin from a black widow is extremely strong; however, the amount injected from a single bite is small. They are dangerous spiders in that the bite delivered can be fatal, but the fear of these spiders is overdone. Each year, the number of deaths from these creatures in N. America can be counted on one hand (several hundred people are actually bitten). This compares with the tens of thousands of people who die each year in car accidents.
