In one of Robert A. Heinlein's science fiction novels, a male character creates 
a clone of himself with the Y chromosome knocked out and replaced with another 
copy of his X chromosome -- resulting in a female version of himself.  Has 
science reached the point where this could be done?  If I remember Mendel's 
peas from grade school, any recessive traits on the X chromosome would be 
expressed.  But otherwise, would it work?
