Many metals can be oxidized.

When the metal is iron, we call the oxide "rust".

When other metals oxidize we call the oxide an "oxide".

Only IRON oxide is called 'rust'

Tin oxide is called either tin oxide or stannous oxide.. It is NOT called rust.
