Hey Eric.
Genetics is the reason for the difference in beard growth between two
individuals, and testosterone is the main reason for the difference in
beard growth of an individual from day to day. As you know, some people
grow beard at an earlier age than others. I had a friend who started
growing beard around 14 and I know someone who has not grown beard even
though he is a middle aged man! Everything, including growing beard is
good at its appropriate time. Have you heard of "Precocious Puberty" in
males? These children reach puberty around the age of 6, and yes, they do
grow beard at this early age! In this disease, the adrenal gland produces
too much androgens (such as testosterone) because of a defective enzyme.
So as you might have already guessed, taking testosterone is one way to
grow more beard (and get more muscle mass, etc). On the down side, taking
too much testosterone results in testicular atrophy (your testes get
smaller) and consequently your body's sperm and testosterone production
goes down. And all this to grow beard a few years earlier?
Forget about it.
