I was recently reading Stephen Hawkings book a brief history of time (for referance pg. 69) and found that an electron had a 1/2 spin. I think that I understand what a 1/2 spin is (it is where you must spin the electron around twice to get it to look the same) but correct me if my understanding is flawed. The only thing that puzzles me is that the whole concept of having to spin something around twice seems so bizzare to me! If you could explain to me why the electron must be spun around twice to have it look the same I would be very thankful.
