Complete question: i know that after fertilization, the ovule becomes the seed and the ovum becomes the embryo which is inside the seed. but i also know that there can be MORE THAN ONE ovules present in ONE ovary, right? so what do these become? do they become SEEDS WITHOUT EMBRYO??? then, can the seeds be grown, without embryo inside them?!?!?!?! thanks for ur help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i appreciate that a lot!!!! :P Reply: The ripened or mature ovary is known as the fruit. Fruits often have more than one seed, for example apples, pears, beans, tomatoes. As an example, for an apple fruit to have its full complement of seeds, a separate pollen tube would need to grow into each of the ovules and a sperm and egg unite to form a zygote in each of the ovules. Each zygote would develop into an embryo. If a fertilization did not occur for a particular apple ovule, then a seed could not form. The unfertilized ovule would degenerate, not form a seed without an embryo. If you cut open enough apple fruits, you will find they do not all the same number of seeds. There are some plants that form seedless fruits, such as bananas, some tomatoes, some cucumbers, seedless watermelons, seedless grapes, cultivated pineapples, and some figs. Thus, fruits can form without seed development but may require pollination. In seedless grapes, you can find the remains of one one or more undeveloped seeds. A seed without an embryo would not be able to germinate.
