MadSci Network: General Biology |
I am a Science teacher, and a student asked me if a person were stranded on an island with no fresh water to drink and only fruit to eat, then how much of the fruit would he or she need to eat in order to survive. I told her it depended on what fruit, because different fruits have different water contents, and on how much water the human body needed a day. I said as soon as we figure out how much water the human body need in order to survive, then we could conduct experiments to find the water content of various fruits. It would be great if you could supply the answer, because the answer to this question would begin the wonderful opportunity for the students to use math and science to find their own answers. Thank you... and good luck! (I have been searching for this information for 2 days now.)
