I understand the difference between constructive and destructive interference. But it seems to me that both must occur, one right after the other, when two waves collide. The only difference would be that when crest meets crest FIRST, or trough meets trough FIRST, constructive interference occurs first, followed immediately by destructive interference, and then again by constructive interference. In other words, when two waves collide, doesn't both constructive AND destructive interference occur? The only difference being which occurs first and last?
