Subject: What chemicals affect nail polish durability?

Girls seem to gravitate toward the "nail polish" science projects and 
are inundating me with information requests. Please tell me which 
chemicals are added to nail polish to increase their durability so 
that I can have them search on the right terms. Also, I'm sure that it 
is probably a balance of certain things in the mix, so if there are 
special interactions that make for a more durable product, I would 
like to know that, as well.
