I wonder if I can pose a question to you? The claim has been made that the 2nd law of thermodynamics provides proof that the universe had a cause outside of itself (a variation of the Kalam cosmology argument). Is this claim supported by mainstream astronomy? It's my understanding that the most widely accepted theory is the "oscillating universe" or multiverse theory, and that this is associated with the "superstring" theory. Is this true, or am I completely off center? Could you please provide me with references in the scientific literature and any other resources (preferably those accessable to the layman) that provide further information on the subject currently in line with mainstream scientific belief? Thank you very much!
