Eating Morning Glory seeds is definitely not recommended

It seems that commercial seeds are treated to make them inedible. I wonder why!

If you are thinking about eating untreated seeds then consider this:

The seeds contain a variety of alkaloids, especially ergine. Seeds contain varying amounts and the effects of eating them are entirely unpredictable. The alkaloid in addition to causing psychic effects that may be both unpleasant and frightening, can induce nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Larger animals which have eaten this plant by mistake have gone into convulsions and a coma as a result.
