The original habitat of the Asian Long horned beetle is hardwood forest in China, however they have arrived in untreated wood from China. Their new hosts in the Americas are hardwoods like: Maples (Norway, sugar,red, silver Manitoba,and sycamore) horsechestnut elms poplars willows ashes cherry and various fruit trees Adults eat the leaves and bark and young shoots of trees. Females deposit eggs one at a time into the bark. Older larvae go deeper into the tree and chew channel through out killing the host tree.
