A chain of who-eats-whom is called a food chain. it is made up of producers and consumers. The producers are those that manufacture the food. The consumers are those that feed on others in the food chain. For example, start with a blade of grass (the producer) that is eaten by a cow (consumer) and the cow in turn is eaten by a person. This is a food chain. Another chain can be a leaf to a caterpillar to a bird. A food web is a group of food chains that become connected (overlapped) in different ways.
