Subject: Are Antarctica and Australia both considered islands and if not, why not?

Why do I keep finding information that Australia is an island continent 
but that Antarctica is not considered an island?  What does the difference 
have to be to constitute either an island or a continent, besides being 
surrounded on all sides by water?  They both are.
