Hi Peshkin:

In short, sandpipers will eat pretty much anything they can catch! When they're wading along the shore, they will encounter and eat such things as insects, worms, amphipods (little shrimp-like crustaceans, also known as "skuds"), isopods (also crustaceans), small molluscs, gastropods (snails), and even small fish. Here's a few links that contain information about the feeding habits of three different species of sandpiper:

  • Western Sandpiper (West Coast species)
  • Wood Sandpiper (European species)
  • Spotted Sandpiper (East Coast species)
  • Hope that helps!
