Subject: Why does my white linoleum floor turn yellow under kitchen nonskid mats?

Both kitchens have yellowed in one year. Mats are standard either
rubber or poly propalene mix. What chemistry is going on? How to
avoid? How to correct. This is where science hits the floor. I
seriously need an answer for interest and marital calmness ;-)
