Message:
in the primary alcohols the melting points increase with an increase in
size of the molecule (beginning wth methanol). The same trend in not seen
with the boiling points. Methanol and ethanol have higher boiling points
than 1-propanol. From 1-propanol on up, with increasing size there is a
trend of increasing boiling point, WHY? Please be specific to molecular
shape, size, intermolecular forces, etc. Thanks in advance
