Dear Irma,
	An elephant does have a navel.  It doesn’t look like ours but it is 
there.  In fact, all mammals that develop in a uterus have a navel.  The 
navel is the spot on the wall of the abdomen that reminds us of where the 
umbilical cord was attached during development.  The reason I said all 
mammals that develop in a uterus is because there are mammals called 
monotremes that develop in eggs.  There are two of these, the duckbill 
platypus and the spiny anteater.  I don’t think these have a navel, but I am 
not sure.
