Silly Putty was invented in 1943 by a scientist who worked for
General Electric, named James Wright. He added boric acid to silicone oil
to try to create a synthetic rubber substitute to be used during WWII.
You can find more information about Silly Putty by using a search engine
(yahoo, snap, excite, etc.) to look for "silly putty" (don't forget the
quotes.) You can also find some useful information at the following web-
site:
www.drtoy.com/drtoy/drclseval3.htm
The name of the company that currently manufactures Silly Putty is
Binney & Smith (the same people who make and sell Crayola Crayons.) Their
toll free number is 800-272-9652. The link that I have listed below did
have a recommended removal procedure:
www.salonmagazine.com/mwt/wild/1998/09/30wild.html
The first step is spray WD-40 on the mess. The WD-40 will remove the
Silly Putty. The next step is to TRY to remove the WD-40 with rubbing
alcohol. The final step is to clean the area with soap and water.
I would recommend doing a test spot in a closet with the WD-40
procedure first. I wish you alot of luck in your clean-up.
