In a recent experiment, we synthesised paracetamol and carried out the 
Liebermann's Test (by adding hydrochloric acid to the synthesised compound, 
heating the mixture and adding potassuim dichromate.) A violet colour was 
observed, after searching around on the net, my understanding is that the 
colour change indicates the presence of phenol, but what is the underlying 
chemistry for this identity test? Thank you.
