I know there's nothing like this right now but...do you think that in the near future they could invent something that literally throws sound? Maybe by laser beam? For example, picture this small handheld device, where you can record a small sentence, then point it at someone's ear 20 feet away then press play. The recipient will hear the sentence and when he/she turns around to see who it is, there wouldn't be anyone there. Also when you press play the device itself doesn't make a sound either, adding to the inconspicuousness.
