Message:

I am currently taking Geology of North America for my Master's 
Degree, and we have discussed the Grand Canyon extensively.  
Why are the oldest layers of metamorphic and igneous rock named
after Hindu tradition-Zoroaster Granite and Vishnu Schist?  Just 
curious.
