Ashley,
That's a good question and you might be surprised by the answer.
At last count there were over six thousand known languages used on Earth.
They break down roughly like this:
Chinese wins for now because of sheer population as number one.
English and Spanish are about tied for second place.
French and Arabic are about tied for third.
Russian and Hindi follow close behind.
For a better look at these facts, I suggest you locate a copy of the 
"Ethnologue", a publication produced by the Summers Institute of Foreign 
Language.
