Hi Katy,
I think you picked a great science project and I am glad to help with your research. To determine the kinds of bacteria found on clothes we should first think about the environments our clothes normally come in contact with. Our skin is certainly the most obvious so you should investigate what types of bacteria are found on our skin. One common bacteria is Micrococcus , I have also included a couple of web page where you can find more information of common skin inhabiting bacteria, just follow these links: Skin Bacteria click here for a link to a Mad Scientist answer about skin bacteria.
Our clothes will also pick up dust and other particles from the air and bacteria can be found on these particles. Airborne bacteria must be resistant to the dry environment of air. Here you may find bacteria such as Bacillus. Generally you will find more Gram positive bacteria ( a way to classify bacteria types based on their cell wall) as they are typically more resistant to dry environments.
Good luck with your science fair project!
Chris
