There's a good reason why you could only find planting by the phase of the moon in folklore. It is just folklore or what is called pseudoscience, something which appears to be based on science but is not. There is no body of scientific research on which to base planting by the sign of the moon. Farmer's almanacs often list preferred sowing dates based on moon signs but they are not scientific. If planting by the sign of the moon was scientific, the best planting dates would be listed on seed packets and in seed catalogs and gardening books. Other examples of pseudoscience are ESP, flying saucers, astrology, fortune telling, Loch Ness monster, water-witching (finding where to drill a well with a forked branch), effects of prayer, music, or talking on plants and pretty much anything on the "X-files" TV series. There are also all sorts of "miracle" products for plants that might also be placed in the category of pseudoscience.
