Jennifer What you describe has nothing to do with particles or the energy transferred in waves. I suspect it is entirely due to small movements in your fingers causing the thread to move or rotate. even though you think your hand is steady as you think `move' small electrical impulses are making your hand `twitch' to make the needle do what you want. Same goes for the banana hook. Also, small drafts of air, such as you breathing, will make a needle apprently move by itself. If you can make the needle move when some one else is holding it, in another room thats another story. To make sure that no outside influences are acting it is better to have the needle in a vacuum chamber on shock absorbers and so you could not see it. If you could then make the needle move it would be the first verifiable case of telekinesis.
