Most heat shock proteins have a role in folding other proteins and in protecting them from heat. They are members of a family of such proteins called chaperones.

There are other proteins involved in survival under stress conditions, such as starvation. You can find a bit more information at this site or in the reference below.

Some of these proteins can form lattices as you suggest. Unfortunately I don't know where to find such a picture.
