Dear Janice -

  It turns out that the answer to your question is similar to that for the
explanation of seasons.  Because the Earth's rotation axis is tilted with
respect to the orbital path around the Sun, the Sun's rays spend more time
directed at one hemisphere depending on the season.  You may remember that
places like Alaska and Antarctica have long nights in the winter and long
days in the summer.  Because we are past the spring equinox there is more
daylight the farther north that you are.  So the answer is in the latitude
and not the longitude.
