Dear Pamela,

Aluminium production is EXTREMELY important in today's technological 
society.  However it does require huge amounts of electricity, and the 
mining of the bauxite scars the land.  There is no free lunch as they say, 
and the economic benefits to those communities who support the production 
of aluminum are countered by the impact to the environment.
