Hi Stephanie,

While my field of expertise is no where near the use of microorganisms in
mining, I can direct you to sources of information. In the Mar 10, 2000
issue of Science (www.sciencemag.org) (vol. 287, pp.1796-1799), there is an
article on the involvement of an archaeon (archaea and bacteria make up the
prokaryotic world) in mining. While the paper itself might be over your head
(?), there are general references listed in the back of the paper that could
be useful to you.

I hope this crumb of information is of help.

Jerry Eichler
