Subject: What is a nitrate and where could I find a list of names of nitrates ?

In school last week we studied nitrates he did not go in to great detail 
about them mostley becaus it's not realy an advanced class and I was 
wanting to know if you could help me more understand the concept of 
nitrates, where they come from, what they look like, there names, and what 
thet do.

Do all nitrates end in O3 (ex. KNO3)

I would realy like to see a list of nitrates so I can study each one of 
them out and see if I can find out what they do for us.
I allready know they are used for fertlizer and over the counter drugs.
mabey you could tell me a few more things they are used for ?
