I am interested in food and its role in developed societies in particular.
Serving as sustenance is one thing but billions of dollars is spent in
fine restaurants with the attainment of celebrated foods & their
preparation being a highlight. As a consumer, I am enthralled by food in a
social context yet I cannot explain to myself the evolutionary advantage
that this scenario delivers. Taste buds are needed for a variety of
purposes (ie selection of pleasant sustaining foods, avoidance of noxious
or potentially dangerous foods) but Friday & Saturday nights in most towns
& cities across the worlds suggest that food is so more important. Why?
