Hi Robin:
Your question has been forwarded to a couple of MAD Scientists, who didn't
know what caterpillar you have there. It's generally very difficult to answer
"what kind of species" questions without seeing a specimen.
I have, however, found a pretty good photo gallery of caterpillars, from
which you might be able to identify yours. It's available here.
