I understand that forty to sixty percent of our personality is hereditary. And I have recently read a study saying that most people, when asked to determine the character of a given photograph of a person whom they did not know, seemed to think somewhat large or wide set eyes said you were intelligent, narrow eyes made you untrustworthy, and so on. And while our first impressions and judgements are certainly not always correct, is there a possibility they have some validity? We speak of a snob nose, a stubborn chin, a hero's cleft, jolly dimples, thin, cruel lips - it seems we've had the concept of our appearance determining our personality for a long time. Could we be genetically preprogrammed to reflect some of our genetic personality traits in our facial features? And are we perhaps born with an instinct to read other people's facial features?
