It seemed to me that the glucometer should be okay in principle, so I googled on the string "blood glucose testing pet". Sure enough, these are used in monitoring diabetic pets, so I would think that they should work okay with mice. As long as you have the capability of performing the spectrophotometric assay, I would suggest comparing the two assay methods head to head on a few samples. This should establish whether the glucometer is sensitive and reliable enough for your application. Good luck, it sounds like a very nice project.
