It seemed to me that the glucometer should be okay in principle, so I 
googled on the string "blood glucose testing pet". Sure enough, these are 
used in monitoring diabetic pets, so I would think that they should work 
okay with mice. For a nice discussion of various meters and other info,

That said, I'm not sure what level of sensitivity you will require. As long 
as you have the capability of performing the spectrophotometric assay, I 
would suggest comparing the two assay methods head to head on a few 
samples. This should establish whether the glucometer is sensitive and 
reliable enough for your application.
