There are a number of ways to investigate electric fields If you go to http://www.physics.ncsu.edu/pira/5eandm/5B10.html you will see a list of experiments with very short descriptions of how they are set up. You will not see detailed instructions. It will give you an idea of approaches. Edmund Scientific has some great supplies you might look into. http://scientificsonline.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_3072375 shows some Temperature Sensitive Liquid Crystal Sheets http://scientificsonline.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_3053484 shows some Thermal Liquid Crystal Paints which are sensitive to temp. I believe you should be able to connect a variable voltage to your carbon paper and lay some Temperature Sensitive Liquid Crystal Sheets over the carbon paper to show temp changes based on joule heating. This heating would be analogous to the field potentials. Be sure to get advice from your instructors regarding safe use of electrical apparatus. Best of Luck Gus S Calabrese Denver, CO
