MadSci Network: Genetics |
There are many areas of speciality in what you're calling genetic engineering and many levels at which you can develop a career. Given you already have a business degree, you could try applying to biotech companies. Many hire for the business side but do offer inhouse training to get employees up to speed. You could also try community colleges, some have training programs for people who want to work in the industry. There are a number of very good masters level programs, masters of public health, masters of human genetics (genetic counselling). Most universities and colleges offer part time classes, you can find out if you can audit the classes. Most science centers also have outreach educational programs -- these are a lot less formal. If it's getting informed, there are general texts, biographies, TV shows etc. We have produced a number of online educational resources -- Internet sites: DNA from the Beginning (www.dnaftb.org), DNA Interactive (www.dnai.org). These would certainly give you a good overview and introduce you to certain concepts. Good luck. Regards, Shirley
